Now that it’s here, I can share some exciting news! Another AAE at my company, Mariano, and I have been working together since September of last year to come up with a better internship for our company.
Last year, when Mariano and I had just started here, at Dieste, we saw some of the summer internship program. While Dieste had been doing internships in the past, there was also not a streamlined process on how they were hired or their overall time here. I’m sure that the interns still learned a lot (as you always do being fully emerged in something), but Mariano and are so close to that time period in our lives, that we could not help but come up with ideas on how to make it better. Because ultimately, this is an opportunity for a great learning experience, as well as a chance for companies to get an exciting word-of-mouth out, from the ground up!
So, Mariano and I came up with a plan of recruiting, how the program would work, and a budget to carry all of it out. Now, I have definitely worked hard to get where I am in life, I have never had too many handouts, but this is something that he and I both were very passionate about. We went to many Texas colleges, we used our social media capabilities to post about and advertise the internship on Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. We are both the type of people, who when we do something, we go all out!
We definitely had a lot of help! Leadership got involved to oversee that our vision went out, we had a creative “dupla” (that’s what we call a partnership between copywriter and art director here) assigned to us to create the visual content, our community managers helped us spread the word, and we had a producer and art director help us come up with and carry out this beautiful webpage on our site!
Then, when all of this was said and done, all there was left to do was review the flow of resumes that came in and work with the mentors on who they would want to interview! Mariano and I set up interviews, and attended as many as we could. We hand selected some of the best of the best! And we really do think this is going to be a great class.
Yesterday was the first day of the internship, and I can’t even begin to tell you how rewarding it has been already. While I haven’t gotten a raise (although, that would be nice!) or a fancy new title, I have learned so much on my own about collaborating with all kinds of different people in the agency and really building something from the ground up! Honestly, if this could be my job all the time, I would love it!
Please stay tuned to hear more about the internship program at Dieste and my life as an Intern Coordinator.
